Why do roof tiles keep slipping?

Repeatedly slipping tiles usually point to failed fixings, deteriorated battens, movement or unsuitable previous repairs rather than an isolated tile problem.

Likely causes

  • Corroded nails, damaged battens, wind loading and ageing coverings may allow movement.

Safe checks you can make

  • Observe from ground level and note whether the same area is affected after wind.
  • Do not attempt temporary roof access.

When to stop and get urgent help

  • Fence off areas beneath loose tiles and seek prompt help where falling material could injure someone.

How a roofer can help

  • A roofer can inspect the fixing system and surrounding roof rather than replacing only the visible tile.
